QUESTION OF THE MONTH

FOR FEBRUARY, 2007:
Should Rex Grossman have to compete for the
starting quarterback job during training camp?

“You'd better believe it. He needs to learn how to look off his receivers and not stare them down before passing for an interception. I'm sure he is a good leader, but he needs some seasoning. I thought it was unfair to put him in after another quarterback carried the Bears through most of the season. I felt he was personally responsible for several losses.”
-- Charles in

“Yes he should.”
-- Ekaleta in

“No way, he proved himself by getting them through the NFC Championship and to the Superbowl!”
-- Andrew in Pennsylvania

"The job should be his to start camp, in my opinion, but at the same time he has to compete to keep the job.”
-- Nic in Darien

“I actually like Rex more now than I did at the beginning of the season, when I didn’t think he could take us all the way to the Super Bowl. Part of the reason the team made it that far is because Lovie Smith had such resolve to stick with him through thick and thin, and that strengthened his confidence. I’d like to see him maintain and build on that confidence, so he should know that the coach continues to consider him the starter. But he should not be so relaxed that he thinks he can’t lose that job no matter what he does. So the back-up quarterbacks should get plenty of practice with the first string team at training camp and during some preseason games, to keep Rex on his toes and know that he could lose the job if he does not perform

FOR JANUARY, 2007
What will be the final score of the Super Bowl?

“This is going to be a close one......Bears 27, Colts 24. Robbie Gould kicks the game winner and stares down Adam Vinatieri.”
-- Nic in Darien

“I think this will be a relatively low-scoring game, 24 – 13, because the defense will just keep pounding on the Colts in a way they have not experienced all season. We’ll have lots of great receptions from Berrian and Muhsin Muhammad and a few from Bradley too, and our running game will be solid.”
-- Diane in Milwaukee

“I hope the Bears win 42 to 21 because they haven’t been to the Super Bowl in 21 years.”
-- Austin in Woodridge

“Da Bears 34, Duh Colts 13.”
-- Steve in California

“Bears, 40 – Colts, 17.”
-- John in Niles

“Bears 24, Colts 17.
-- Paul in Pennsylvania

Who will earn the coveted title of Super Bowl MVP?

“Rex Grossman or Thomas Jones = MVP.”
-- Anthony in Chicago

“Thomas Jones!!! With 14,000 yards rushing… Ha!”
Mike in Westmont

“Thomas Jones will have another stellar performance and take home the extra hardware (125 yds, 2 tds).”
Nic in Darien

“Devin Hester.”
Tony in Florida

What will be the final score of the NFC Championship Game between the Bears and the Saints?

“Saints 14, Da Bears 30.”
-- Anthony in Chicago

“21 - 10 Bears win!”
-- Jill in Glendale Heights

“Bears 31, Saints 24.”
-- Samual in Joliet

“27 BEARS, 10 New Orleans.”

-- Joe in Arizona

“Da Bears 73, the SAINTS 0 !”
-- Kenny in California

“Bears – 27, Saints – 24.”
-- Jenna in Joliet

“Well, after Grossman throws 4 TD's in the first half, and Benson and Jones get 2 apiece in the 2nd half, I'll say Bears 59 and Saints 14. Write that down!”
-- Nick in Darien

“If you thought the Seattle game was a nail biter, then grab your blanket Linus, because this game is going to be just as close. Bears 31 Saints 30. Dear Papa Bear, please let the Defense return and let Rex be calm.”
-- Mark in Algonquin

“Da Bears 31, Saints 20.”
-- Steve in California

“It will be close in the beginning, but the Bears defense will really take over in the second half and make some scores to pull to a commanding 23-13 lead by the end of the game.”
-- Diane in Woodridge

“Good luck this weekend, Diane! And stay warm -- no streaking, even if they win! Did I say if? I meant when!”
-- Chris Connelly at ESPN

Who should be the starting quarterback in the first Playoff Game?

“I kind of hate to say it, but you got to go with the guy that brought you to the dance, Rex, and hope for the best. I think he'll have a good game. I am more worried about the "D" unless they have been giving the league a false sense of security. Key: Run the ball down their throats.”
-- John in Niles

” A Honey Bear should be the starting quarterback!!!”
-- Jim in Lake County

“Grossman.”
-- Heidy on the Internet

“Jim McMahon, because he’s the punky QB.”
-- James in Denver

“Sid Luckman!”
-- Kenny in California

“Kyle Orton, because he knows how to play conservatively and throw no interceptions and let the defense score and win the game.”
-- Diane in Milwaukee

“Griese, because he’s the back-up quarterback and because Rex might not do a good job.”
-- Austin in Woodridge
